The 17th and 18th June 1800, from the Castel Sant'Angelo echoes teh sound of cannons and the news of Napoleon's victory reaches Rome... - Jette Steckel debuted in 2013 at the Opera in Basel and took the figures into the present in her acclaimed staging. EINS23 designed and shot nine short films.
Situation
Puccini's «Tosca» is one of the best known of all plays. Hardly any other opera is as precisely anchored in the historical background in time and location. so Withstands an achievement like this a relocation to the present time?
Solution
Jette Steckel staged the show as "play within a play". Floria Tosca, the famous singer, playing herself: Tosca. In her life everything from the beginning is of history. The idea is presented in a kind of film aesthetics. This aesthetic is further enhanced by the cubist stage set and the inserted video sequences. Jette Steckel succeeds in expanding the theater space. The close-ups show cinematically what viewers see or can imagine. We were responsible for all film content

Movie: In the church
The artist Cavaradossi (Maxim Aksenov) works in the church of Sant'Andrea della Valle. But he is introduced as a video artist instead of painter. This film shows his work with the beautiful stranger and gives an idea of his attitude to the church.
Video art as a modern equivalent of the fresco.
Scarpia's end
The police chief Scarpia (Davide Damiani and Simon Neal) wants Tosca (Svetlana Ignatovich and Claire Rutter) as informant - but also as a woman. After his last, fatal for him, ends with a "Tosca tattoo" on the torso. This film was in addition to the stage action projected onto the stage towers.
3D neon sign
The beginning of the performance: Tosca enters the stage as a pop star. Behind her a larger than life projected, flickering neon sign appears. The following picture illustrates the formation of the neon sign in 3D space. By pushing the slider pre-post comparison is possible.
